Chipotle Meco
The Meco chipotle is a jalapeno as well. However, one difference is that the pepper remains on the plant until it matures. Once it turns bright red, pick it.
Just like the Morita chipotle, the Meco is smoked. HEnce, it is given the name “chipotle.” The biggest difference is how long it is left in the smoker. Smoke the Meco twice as long as the Morita chipotle. Ultimately, it imparts a rich, complex flavor.
A Meco chili pepper costs more than a Meco. This is because of the extra smoking time. The longer time in the smoker also brings out a stronger flavor in the Meco. While the Morita is mild and gets lost in stronger flavors in recipes, the Meco is not as subtle.
The chipotle pepper isn’t the hottest pepper. This is because it measures between 5000 and 10000 in Scoville Heat Units. However, the deep, spicy, smoky flavor makes it one of the most flavorful peppers.
